A Sunny Cafe Morning: Finding Joy in Small Moments, Croissants, and Self-Love

There’s something magical about a cafe in the morning. The light hits just right. The string lights are still glowing even though the sun is up. Flowers spill out of terracotta pots. And for a few minutes, the world feels slow, soft, and completely yours.

That’s exactly how this morning felt.

I walked into my favorite little outdoor cafe wearing a pale yellow top and denim shorts, looking for two things: a good croissant and a quiet moment for myself. What I got instead was a reminder that joy doesn’t have to be loud. Sometimes it’s in the crunch of a berry croissant, the fizz of lemonade with a slice of lemon, and the way sunlight catches in curly hair.

Let me take you through that morning — and why I think we all need more mornings like this.

#### 1. The Power of a "Me-Date"

We talk a lot about self-care. Face masks. Gym. Early nights. But we rarely talk about the simplest form of self-care: taking yourself out.

No phone scrolling. No emails. No trying to be productive.

Just you, a table, and something delicious.

I’ve started calling it a "me-date." Once a week, I block 1 hour. I pick a place with natural light, order what I _actually_ crave, and sit. That’s it.

Sitting here today, with my berry croissant in front of me, I realized how rare it is to just _be_ without trying to earn it. We’re always chasing the next goal, the next post, the next achievement. But happiness lives in the pause between all of that.

If you haven’t taken yourself on a me-date in a while, consider this your sign. Pick the cafe with the fairy lights. Order the pastry. Stay 20 minutes longer than you planned.

#### 2. Why Yellow is the Color of New Beginnings

I almost didn’t wear this yellow top. It felt too bright. Too happy. Too "look at me."

But then I remembered something my grandmother told me: _“Yellow is the color Allah uses to paint the morning. Wear it when you want to start again.”_

And she was right. Yellow does something to your mood. It’s warm without being overwhelming. It’s optimistic. In color psychology, yellow is linked to confidence, clarity, and joy.

Paired with denim shorts, it became the perfect cafe outfit: comfortable, breezy, and a little bit sunshiny. The loose, off-shoulder cut kept it cool for the morning heat, and the simple "A" necklace added just enough personal touch.

Clothes are not just fabric. They’re mood-setters. If you’re feeling stuck, try wearing a color that feels like the version of you you want to become.

#### 3. The Art of the Perfect Cafe Order

Let’s talk about the food, because this is important.

On the plate: a croissant sandwich loaded with fresh strawberries, blueberries, and greens. On the side: a tall glass of iced lemonade with lemon slices and a straw.

Why this combo? Because balance.

The croissant is buttery and flaky — comfort food. The berries add freshness and antioxidants. The greens make me feel like I’m being healthy. And the lemonade? That’s pure summer in a glass.

Cafe culture isn’t just about caffeine. It’s about creating a ritual. My ritual is:

1.  Arrive early

 before it gets crowded

2.  Pick an outdoor table

 with plants around

3.  Order one sweet + one fresh item

4.  Put my phone away for 30 minutes

Try it. Your brain will thank you.

#### 4. Body Neutrality and Showing Up As You Are

I’m not going to pretend this photo was easy to take.

For a long time, I avoided sitting in public places in shorts. I told myself I’d wait "until I lose 5kg" or "until my hair is less frizzy." But the problem with "until" is that life keeps happening while you’re waiting.

Today, my hair is curly and big. My body takes up space in this chair. And I’m smiling anyway.

This isn’t about "body positivity" in a loud, performative way. This is about body neutrality. The idea that my body is just the vehicle that got me to this cafe, to this croissant, to this sunlight. It doesn’t have to be perfect to deserve nice things.

If you’ve been waiting to wear the yellow top, to post the photo, to go to the cafe — don’t wait. The world needs to see you in your soft, curly, real moments too.

#### 5. How to Recreate This Vibe at Home

Can’t make it to a cafe? You can still create this energy at home. Here’s my 5-step "Cafe Morning at Home" guide:

Step 1: Light

Open all the windows. If it’s evening, use warm string lights. Light tricks your brain into relaxing.

Step 2: Plants

You don’t need a garden. One small potted flower on your table changes everything.

Step 3: The Menu

Toast a croissant. Add berries and a little honey. Make lemonade with real lemon and ice. The key is: make it feel special, not rushed.

Step 4: The Outfit

Put on something that makes you feel good, even if you’re not going anywhere. Yellow, linen, cotton — fabrics that breathe.

Step 5: The Rule

No work. No doomscrolling. Just music, a book, or just sitting. 30 minutes.

#### 6. What This Morning Taught Me

As I sat here watching people walk by, I thought about how often we miss our own lives because we’re too busy documenting them or worrying about them.

This morning taught me 3 things:

1.  Beauty is in ordinary things. Fairy lights in daylight. A flower on the next table. The sound of ice in a glass.

2.  Rest is productive. That 1 hour of doing nothing gave me more ideas and energy than 3 hours of forcing myself to work.

3.  You are allowed to take up space. In cafes. In photos. In conversations. In your own life.

#### Final Thoughts: Your Invitation

If you made it this far, thank you for sitting with me, virtually, through this morning.

My invitation to you is simple: This week, schedule one hour that belongs only to you. Go to a cafe, a park bench, or your balcony. Order something you love. Wear something that makes you feel like sunshine.

Take the photo or don’t. Post it or don’t. The point isn’t the photo. The point is the feeling.

Life is made up of small, sunlit moments like this. Don’t miss them waiting for a "bigger" moment.
